RUSSIA: ST PETERSBURG: CONTROVERSIAL TREATMENT FOR COMA VICTIMS

RUSSIA: ST PETERSBURG: CONTROVERSIAL TREATMENT FOR COMA VICTIMS

Russian doctors have developed a revolutionary and controversial technique for helping to revive coma patients.

The treatment developed in St Petersburg relies on aborted foetuses.

Cells from the embryos are injected into the brains of coma victims.

The new technique has been developed at the once-secret Brain Institute in St Petersburg.

Chief neurological surgeon Feliks Gurchin believes it would be a waste not use to aborted foetuses to help the sick.

Doctors at the institute have been working on a new technique to revive coma patients by taking cells from an aborted foetus and injecting them into the brain tissue of patients.

The technique has been so successful with coma victims, doctors are now trying it out on people suffering from brain damage.
